Where to start, what survives, and how the plant keeps running.

Where does a plant upgrade start?

With the constraint. A walk of the floor and your production numbers usually point to one section setting the plant’s rate — that’s where the first phase aims.

Do we have to shut down for the work?

No. Upgrades get phased around shutdown windows, weekends and shift patterns, with each phase leaving the plant able to run.

How much of our existing equipment survives?

As much as can carry the requirement. Evaluating and reusing existing equipment — sometimes refurbished, sometimes relocated — is how the budget stays sane.

Is this an all-or-nothing automation project?

No. Automation earns its way in one application at a time — a cell, a line segment, a connected system. The plan can stop or continue at every phase.

What about the data and Industry 4.0 side?

Connectivity and line data get designed in where they pay — connected controls, fault reporting, rate visibility. The goal is answers for your team, not technology for its own sake.

How do we budget something this open-ended?
