Accumulation Conveyor FAQs

Zero pressure, sizing, retrofits and controls.

How much buffer do we need?

It comes from your stop patterns: how long the downstream process stops, how often, and the arrival rate during the stop. We size in minutes of surge first, then translate to conveyor.

Can accumulation be added to an existing line?

Usually, yes. Zones can replace a section of transport conveyor, and overhead or parallel routing can add buffer where the straight path has no room.

Is MDR always the right answer?

It’s the quietest and most efficient for cases and totes, but heavy loads and high speeds can favor line-shaft, belt-under-roller or CDLR designs. The product decides.

What about pallets?

Pallet accumulation uses CDLR zones, transfer cars or gravity-fed lanes with separation controls — different hardware, same zero-pressure logic.

Do you integrate with our machine controls?

Yes. Release patterns, back-pressure signals and permissives get coordinated with the equipment on both ends so the buffer helps instead of fighting the machines.

Can we start with just the worst section?

That’s a good project. A single buffer ahead of the constraint is often the highest-return conveyor money on the floor.
